Out of court settlement for £500,000 reflects banker’s lost bonuses
19 Jun 2012A City high flier’s fall down a rickety set of stairs at a wedding reception led to a personal injury claim that was settled out of court for £500,000
Mr A was injured when he fell down some stairs at a hotel wedding reception.
Mr A was a high flyer in the City who was injured when he fell down some rickety stairs at a hotel wedding reception carrying a wine glass, so that he dropped the glass which broke and he landed on it with the unfortunate consequence that the glass sliced through his eye.
As a result of the accident the client lost confidence in his appearance and was no longer able to pursue the part of his job which entailed meeting and greeting people so that he was confined to a back office career. This entailed a substantial loss of income, particularly annual bonuses.
The Claimant consulted Osbornes Partner Wendy Wright and proceedings were issued. The Defendant insurers argued initially about whose fault the accident was and they resisted the claim for ongoing bonuses.
Eventually an out of court settlement was reached whereby the client received nearly £500,000.
