Tom Fyans, CEO of London Cycling Campaign (LCC):
So obviously we’ve been working together for 10 years now, which is absolutely fantastic. I’m interested what kind of changes have you seen over that time in terms of how you how you support our members and people cycling in London?
Andrew Middlehurst:
Yeah. Well, I can I can think back to um when we’ve when we first started working together and um I remember sitting as a as a trainee at my desk and had a separate phone especially for LCC clients who would call in on the number that they found on the website and um and it was almost like yeah like a phone. Yeah. And um and and then obviously technology and things like that move on. Um but I’ve definitely seen um more and more clients have come to us um via the LCC so that they can get access to um specialists in in cycling legal.

That’s amazing. So dedicated sort of phone lines right through to specialist advice and support when they really need it. That’s fantastic.

Climate change is obviously very topical at the moment and in terms of London meeting its own climate change targets, how do you see cycling being a part of that and and how does the the LCC help to achieve that as well?
Tom Fyans, CEO of London Cycling Campaign:
The mayor has his own has set his own targets of I think 80% of journeys to be done either by public transport or cycling and walking in order to drive down those emissions. So in order to get to that then you’ve got to see an awful lot more cycling. So you need a lot more infrastructure putting in so that people will make that choice to sort of cycle and cycle safely and then you know that will get people out of cars. it will get, you know, of course we support public transport and that helps too, but getting people out of cars and onto bikes and walking is really where you will make the most savings on emissions and that’s in some places harder than others, you know, but we’re seeing even with ebikes at the moment and the kind of shared ebike schemes that are on the popularity of those that people are using those instead of, you know, increasingly starting to use them instead of car journeys in some places, joining up their public transport journeys and really. We see that as the future of active travel in London to really, you know, leave the car at home most of the time and and take that more active choice that’s going to be good for you and for the planet.
