The accident occurred when the van, attempting a U-turn due to a road closure, collided with a cyclist who was overtaking it. This resulted in the cyclist being knocked off his bicycle and sustaining fractures to both elbows, one of which required surgical fixation.

He was unable to work for approximately six weeks and faced challenges in preparing for his planned relocation back to the United States, scheduled just over three weeks after the incident. Fortunately, his sister was able to travel to the UK to assist him during this difficult period.
