Osbornes Law’s serious injury solicitors have secured more than £17 million in amputation settlements, with results from £100,000 to £7 million. The cases below show what specialist representation can achieve after limb loss.
Losing a limb changes every part of your life, from how you work to how you move around your home. Compensation cannot undo that, but it can fund the care, prosthetics and support you need for the rest of your life.
Our personal injury lawyers act for people who have lost a leg, arm, hand or fingers in accidents at work and on the road. We work on a no win, no fee basis, and we arrange early rehabilitation and interim payments so your recovery does not have to wait for your claim to finish.
Every result below reflects a real client. Figures depend on the circumstances of each case, including the level of amputation, your age, and the effect on your work and independence.

How amputation compensation is calculated
Amputation compensation has two parts. General damages cover the injury itself, the pain and the loss of amenity. Special damages cover your financial losses, including lost earnings, care, home adaptations and the lifetime cost of prosthetic limbs.
For the most serious cases, replacing and maintaining advanced prosthetics over a lifetime can be the largest part of the claim. This is sometimes paid through a periodical payment order, which provides regular, index-linked payments for life rather than a single lump sum.
You can read more about how we run these claims on our amputation claims page, which sits within our wider serious injury work.

FAQs
Does an amputation settlement cover the cost of prosthetic limbs?
Yes. A claim can include the lifetime cost of prosthetic limbs, including replacements, repairs and modern technology where it is justified. In serious cases this is often one of the largest parts of the settlement.
What is a periodical payment order?
It is a way of paying compensation as regular, index-linked payments for life, rather than as a single lump sum. It is often used to fund ongoing care and prosthetics, so the money cannot run out.
