Our client was 21 years old when the accident happened on 8 December 2020. He was riding his motorbike when he was involved in a collision.

On the face of it, this was a case without amputation or paralysis. The value came from the lasting effect on a young person at the very start of his working life.

The medical evidence confirmed that our client met the definition of “disabled” under the Equality Act 2010. In claims like this, that matters because it shows the injury has a substantial, long-term effect on everyday activities.

It also meant our client was significantly disadvantaged on the open labour market. In plain terms, his injuries make it harder for him to compete for jobs and to stay in work over a lifetime, so the claim included a sum to reflect that reduced earning capacity.

We issued High Court proceedings to put pressure on the defendant and move the case forward. Building the claim meant gathering detailed medical evidence on his injuries, his prognosis and the likelihood of further surgery.

The case settled by agreement for a gross sum of £1.1 million. A result at this level reflects both the seriousness of the injuries and their effect on our client’s future earnings and quality of life.
