The Bulgarian community in the UK
Bulgaria joined the European Union in 2007, and since work restrictions were lifted in 2014, the Bulgarian community in the UK has grown substantially. According to the Office for National Statistics, there are now around 150,000 Bulgarian-born residents in England and Wales, with London home to the largest concentration, particularly in areas such as Haringey, Lewisham and Southwark.
Bulgarian nationals make an important contribution to the UK workforce. They are employed across a wide range of sectors, including construction and civil engineering, healthcare and social care, food processing, cleaning and facilities management, and hospitality. Many are in physically demanding jobs where workplace accidents are a real risk.
If you have been injured in the UK, whether at work, on the road, or elsewhere, and someone else was at fault, you may be entitled to compensation under the law of England and Wales. Our Bulgarian-speaking solicitors are here to help you understand your rights and guide you through the claims process in your own language.
Personal injury claims for Bulgarian nationals
Bulgaria’s legal system treats personal injury claims quite differently from England and Wales. The process here can feel unfamiliar, and the compensation available is often considerably higher than what a Bulgarian court would award. Our Bulgarian-speaking solicitors will explain how the system works in clear, plain Bulgarian, so you can make an informed decision about whether to pursue a claim.
You do not need to be a British citizen, or to have permanent settled status, to make a claim. The law of England and Wales applies to everyone injured here, regardless of nationality or immigration status.
Medical negligence claims for Bulgarian nationals
Our Bulgarian-speaking solicitors also act for clients who have suffered harm because of poor or negligent medical treatment received in England or Wales.
Medical negligence occurs when a healthcare professional’s care falls below a reasonable standard, and that failure causes you harm or makes your condition worse. These cases require independent expert medical evidence and specialist legal knowledge.
Being able to discuss your experience in Bulgarian means you can describe your symptoms, your treatment and your concerns accurately, without worrying about mistranslation. Where medical assessments require an interpreter, we can arrange this for you.
No Win, No Fee
We handle almost all personal injury and medical negligence claims under a Conditional Fee Agreement, commonly known as No Win, No Fee.
This means you pay nothing upfront to start your claim. If your claim succeeds, our agreed success fee is taken as a percentage of the compensation you receive. If the claim does not succeed, you do not pay for our legal work.
We also arrange an insurance policy to cover the other side’s legal costs in the event your case does not succeed. You are protected financially from the start.
Our Bulgarian-speaking solicitors will explain all of this to you in Bulgarian before you make any decision.

Frequently asked questions
Can I speak to a solicitor in Bulgarian? Yes. Osbornes Law has Bulgarian-speaking solicitors and legal staff who can handle your case from the very first conversation. We communicate in Bulgarian throughout the process and make sure you understand every step clearly before you sign anything.
Do I need to live in London to use your services? No. We act for Bulgarian clients across England and Wales. Our offices are in Camden and Hampstead, but the majority of the claims process can be handled remotely, by phone, video call and email. You rarely need to travel to see us.
How much will a claim cost me? Almost all personal injury and medical negligence claims are handled on a No Win, No Fee basis. You pay nothing upfront. If the claim succeeds, our agreed success fee is deducted from your compensation. If it does not succeed, you pay nothing for our work. We explain this fully at your first consultation.
Can I claim if I am not a British citizen? Yes. You do not need British citizenship, settled status or any particular visa to bring a personal injury or medical negligence claim in England and Wales. The law here applies to everyone who is injured on UK soil, regardless of nationality or immigration status.
How long do I have to make a claim? The standard time limit in England and Wales is three years from the date of your accident or injury, or from the date you first became aware that your injury may have been caused by another party’s mistake. Time limits can vary in some circumstances, for example where children or people without mental capacity are involved. It is important to take advice as soon as possible, because gathering strong evidence becomes more difficult as time passes.
What types of injury do you deal with? We handle claims involving serious and catastrophic injuries, including brain injuries, spinal injuries, amputations and serious orthopaedic injuries, as well as less severe injuries such as fractures, soft tissue damage and whiplash. For medical negligence, we act in cases involving misdiagnosis, surgical errors, birth injuries, GP negligence, care home negligence and a range of other failures in clinical care.
What if my accident happened while I was working without a formal contract? Employment and injury claims are separate matters. Your immigration status and the exact nature of your work arrangement do not prevent you from making a personal injury claim if you were injured as a result of someone else’s negligence. Get in touch and we will advise you on your position.
