Basement extensions don’t go down well with neighbours

A road in St John’s Wood has been named London’s most “dug-out” street with 24 applications for full scale basement applications since 2000, with three being worked on currently.

Since 2000 swimming pools, gyms, cinema rooms, car parks and staff accommodation have been created underground.

Such development has led to one home being on the open market for £37.5 million – making it one of the most expensive properties in London.

The trend in basement extensions has however caused concern for some neighbours who say they are fed up with the sound of drilling beneath their feet.
