Tribute to Judge Nicholas Crichton

Nick Crichton, pioneering family law judge who created FDAC (Family Drug and Alcohol Courts), very sadly died on 17 December 2018. Members of Osbornes Children’s Law Team regularly represented parents and children both in FDAC Hearings and in the many other children’s law cases over which he presided.
Naomi Angell, an experienced child care lawyer in Osbornes Family Team is quoted as follows:
“Nick was one of my legal heroes. It was not just that he was an inspirational judge – compassionate, patient, firm, yet always just – but that he always kept the voice of the child central, yet still respected and protected the rights and vulnerabilities of their families.
In parallel he was a tireless and committed advocate for pushing forward and seeking to improve broader family policy.
FDAC is a towering achievement but so also on many less visible but very important areas of family legal practice that he addressed and improved.”
