Rita completed a Graduate Diploma in Law in 2017, and the Legal Practice Course together with a Masters in Law in November 2019. During her legal studies Rita joined the Free Representation Unit where she successfully appealed the DWP’s decision to award her client the lower rate of Personal Independence Payment during summer 2020.
Rita has previously volunteered for the British Refugee Council and became a drop-in caseworker at the Notre Dame Refugee Centre. She has also worked as an interpreter with various charities including Safe Passage and the Refugee Rights Data Project, nowadays known as Refugee Rights Europe. Notably, Rita was interpreting in Calais and Dunkirk camps in France to support the successful High Court challenge regarding the disputed number of unaccompanied child asylum seekers seeking to come to the UK (“The Dubs Challenge” brought by Help Refugees).
Rita speaks fluent English, Kurdish (Sorani), Spanish, and Finnish. In her free time she travels whenever possible, and enjoys cooking and Cali style salsa dancing.
