A factory worker who was exposed to excessive noise at work for over twenty years has received compensation after suffering from hearing loss and tinnitus in both ears.
The man was diagnosed with the problem after complaining of ringing in his ears.
In his 21 year career as a machinist he had never been offered a hearing test. Neither had the firm at which he worked for provided ear plugs until 1996, though the wearing of them was never enforced.
The man has described how the loss of hearing has completely changed, he finds social situations particularly difficult as he cannot hear all the conversation which is taking place, this has resulted in him feeling isolated.
