Anest Mathias joins the Executive Committee of British Infertility Counselling Association (BICA)

We are delighted that Anest Mathias, family law solicitor has been invited to join this important charity. BICA are the only professional infertility counselling Association recognised by the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority and the British Fertility Society in the UK.
Anest is a highly experienced solicitor with a specialist focus on fertility and surrogacy law. She has written the Resolution Good Practice Guide on Fertility Law and is a commentator on surrogacy and fertility issues; contributing to the Journal of Fertility Counselling and Bionews.
Anest’s reported cases on parenthood following donor conception, include A & Ors (Human Fertilisation And Embryology Act 2008)  EWHC 2602, the landmark case considering parenthood following donor conception where there were anomalies with clinic paperwork.
Established in 1988, The British Infertility Counselling Association was formed at a time when parliament were drafting legislation to regulate the field of Reproductive Medicine which was developing following the birth of the first baby born as a result of In Vitro Fertilisation treatment. The Association’s aims include:
- Informing and educating professionals involved in the field of assisted conception, and beyond, and the wider public about the psychological and social impact of infertility through the provision of training and information.
- Supporting BICA members in their practice and professional development through the provision of information, training, opportunities for networking and through an accreditation process that aims to ensure high quality standards and ethical practice are evaluated, maintained and adhered to.
The Association’s team have welcomed Anest stating that “her expertise in fertility and surrogacy law together with her interest in fertility counselling will be a valuable asset to BICA”
