On Wednesday 23 July 2014, over 100 people gathered at the AGE UK offices in Bloomsbury for the launch of a new project by AGE UK Camden (AUC).
The project, entitled ‘Plan Ahead – Legal and Financial Matters’is aimed at educating and empowering older members of the Camden community to plan for later life and ensure that they have all their legal and financial matters in order.
Following the launch nine events will take place across the borough, at which residents can get more information about the services being offered by Osbornes and Ablestoke, the financial partners of this new project.
Hira Bhanderi, Information, Advice and Advocacy Manager at AUC comments:
‘Many older people haven’t arranged their financial and legal matters such as making a will or lasting powers of attorney. This can cause a great deal of stress, both to the older person and their families. Our Plan Ahead sessions will help people understand all the issues involved, and help them work out what they need to do. Our hope is that people will be more prepared and organised in their finances and other legal issues’.
The launch event included guest speeches from Charles Fraser of Fraser & Fraser, who feature in the BBC series ‘Heir Hunters’ and Councillor Pat Callaghan, Deputy Leader, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Health, London Borough of Camden. Both spoke about the contribution AUC was and had made in the local community.
“Given the turnout, it is clear that this is an emotive subject that people want help with, with many of those in attendance expressing how ‘daunting the prospect of writing a will was and not knowing where to start. The project will now allow these ones to put their affairs in order, with the help of professionals that they can trust”.
The first of the nine events will take place on Wednesday 30th July from 10:30am at the offices’ of Osbornes on Pratt Street in Camden. To confirm your attendance at this event please call us on 020 7485 8811.
Osbornes was chosen as legal contributor to the plan ahead project after a tender process carried out by AUC.
