Addison Lee backlash continues after cyclist comments made by chairman

News article published on: 20th June 2012

Monday night saw the facebook organised “die-in” protest take place outside London cab and courier company, Addison Lee’s office following an article written in the company’s internal magazine ‘Add Lib’. Chairman John Griffin suggested in the article that cyclist fatalities and injury was a result and fault of untrained cyclists who Griffin said “haven’t got a clue and should not be on the roads…they are a danger to themselves”

Since these comments became public knowledge a petition to withdraw Addison Lee’s licence has gathered pace with 3,700 signatures, the twitter campaign #boycottaddisonlee is growing with many clients vowing to switch suppliers and of course last night’s protest which was attended by 250 people.

Cycle safe campaign

Comments made by Griffin have surfaced at the same time as The Times ‘cyclesafe campaign’, which Osbornes solicitors is a keen supporter of. London will also be hosting the “Big Ride” on Saturday 28th April 2012, which has been arranged to campaign for safer cycling routes in London.

The issue of safer cycling has become much more of a burning issue especially since February saw the 10th cyclist fatality in London since the beginning of 2012. March also saw the personal injury experts at Osbornes win over £20,000 for clients who had been injured in a cycling or motorbike accident.

Have you been injured in a cycling or motorbike accident

It is crucial that the following steps are taken after any accident:

  • Take down the details of the other party at the scene, including name, address, telephone, insurance details and vehicle registration number.
  • Report the matter to the police immediately. If for any reason this is not possible, report the accident in person to a police station as soon as you can (and get a police reference number) .
  • Take details of any other party and any witnesses.
  • Contact your own insurers, if relevant .
